Meet Valley!

If you have been looking at our page for any amount of time then you know trained adult dogs are rare for us. I’m also going to be really honest in saying I have so many people contact me for adult dogs that I can’t remember everyone. Valley will be placed with the best fit for her not necessarily the first to contact me. Valley originally lived in a guardian home where she was very loved but unfortunately they needed to return her about a year and a half ago and she has been living with me ever since. When I say this decision has not come easy I mean it. I love this dog so much and I have really contemplated her staying with me forever. I do just think that is she was able to be the center of someone’s world or have only 1-2 dog siblings she would be much happier than sharing me with all my dogs. She is the best snuggler, is mostly lazy, and loves to be with you. She does love her zoomies around the yard though too. A good 15-30mins zoom in the yard is really all the exercise she needs and then she will be snoozing on the couch, in the recliner, or in a dog bed the rest of the day. She adores car rides and getting to be your adventure buddy. She also does good for grooming and is used to going on a 4-6 week schedule. She like all dogs has her quirks that make her who she is. I say she is my nearly perfect girl.

Valley can sometimes be a puller on leash and both with her guardian and with me she lived in a rural environment so walking down the street with cars and lots of people she can tend to bark. She really has been rural for her life so transitioning to more of a city dog I think would definitely be an adjustment for her and may not be the best fit for her to be happy but also if you are patient and willing to work with her on learning to live in the city it could work. I would expect barking behavior at first if she lived in a city environment and possibly some training to stop it. As well as some leash pulling when she is excited I would suggest a prong collar to help with least pulling. Harnesses absolutely make her pulling worse. We have also found out she sometimes barks at animals on tv…a super weird quirk. Then she does sometimes jump up with her front feet on the counter or table to check for a snack. That is 100% my fault because I almost always have dog treats in my pockets and I will empty them out on the table/counter. 😅 Then she likes to eat her food in her crate away from the other dogs. Lastly every now and then like very far and few between she will decide to get into something if I leave her out her crate when I’m not home. For example she got into a bag of alpaca fiber and it looked like it had exploded when I came home. 🤣 So the simple solution to this is if you are not home I would crate her.

She had 4 weeks of professional training when she was a puppy and does know her basic commands and loves to practice them. We do little training sessions pretty much every evening. Valley is now 5 years old and is spayed and just had her teeth cleaned as well. She is also up to date on all her shots and heart worm/flea tick prevention. She stays between 20-23lbs though her bloodline is known to become obese if their weight isn’t watched. She has also been around children including going to schools with me and done great but has never lived with them. She has obviously been around my farm animals and she does sometimes think chasing the cats would be fun but again has never lived with them as my cats are farm cats.

A couple things that I am looking for:

A Fenced in Yard. She just wouldn’t be happy to only be leash walked and not get to do her zoomies.

Someone that will stay in touch. I can’t imagine not being kept up to date on her and would love a local home where I could see her still sometimes. Her mom for example boards with me when her retirement home goes out of town and I love getting to see Jolene a few times per year.

Understanding that adult dogs can take a few months to fully settle into a new home. The general rule is 3 days to figure out they are somewhere new, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to fully settle in.
